Techno Deus: M.S. Alwi solo exhibition

M.S. Alwi (Indonesian, 1994) explores the intersection of traditional belief systems and contemporary technology through a speculative world in which algorithms, artificial intelligence, and digital networks emerge as invisible forces that gradually permeate everyday life.

Techno Deus invite viewers to reconsider technology as more than a functional tool, proposing it instead as a new form of invisible power that shapes the way we understand and engage with the contemporary world. Inspired from the forms of amulets, talismans, and sacred symbols found in the cultures of Indonesia and Southeast Asia, M.S. Alwi creates a series of fictional techno-talismans — imagined objects that bridge ancestral beliefs with digital systems.

The exhibition features low-relief sculptures made from recycled paper clay, transforming a material once used to preserve knowledge and history into artifacts from an imagined future. Embedded within these works are abstract visual diagrams that intertwine electronic circuits, yantra motifs, and contemporary interface aesthetics, suggesting the emergence of new systems of belief. Together, the works envision a world where technology is no longer merely a tool, but a space for faith, ritual, and contemporary spirituality.

Techno Deus นิทรรศการเดี่ยวครั้งแรกในประเทศไทย ศิลปินหยิบยืมรูปทรงของสัญลักษณ์ศักดิ์สิทธิ์ที่พบในวัฒนธรรมของอินโดนีเซียและภูมิภาคเอเชียตะวันออกเฉียงใต้ มาสร้างเป็นเครื่องรางแห่งโลกเทคโนโลยี fictional techno - talismans วัตถุสมมุติที่เชื่อมโยงความเชื่อดั้งเดิมเข้ากับระบบดิจิทัล และชวนมองบทบาทของเทคโนโลยีในฐานะพลังรูปแบบใหม่ของโลกปัจจุบัน

ผลงานประติมากรรมนูนต่ำจาก paperclay ที่ผลิตจากกระดาษรีไซเคิล เปลี่ยนวัสดุที่เคยบันทึกความรู้และประวัติศาสตร์ให้กลายเป็นเสมือนโบราณวัตถุจากโลกอนาคต ภายในผลงานปรากฏแผนภาพนามธรรมที่เชื่อมโยงระหว่างแผงวงจร ยันต์ และอินเทอร์เฟซร่วมสมัย สะท้อนการก่อเกิดของความเชื่อรูปแบบใหม่ และชวนสำรวจโลกที่เทคโนโลยีไม่ได้เป็นเพียงเครื่องมือ หากแต่กลายเป็นพื้นที่ของความศรัทธา พิธีกรรม และจิตวิญญาณร่วมสมัย
