‘The Encounters of Maya’s Truths (2024)’ is another highlight of the exhibition with a performative aspect. By inviting visitors to engage with the installation and discover the unspoken conversations, they will have to confront the other person in the opposite side. The artist’s crafted masks, armors and sandals made of brass and ornamented with Prehnite stones symbolize protection, precognition and inner knowing through their mystical meaning. Inspired by the Greek warriors of Troy, these wearable materials signify bravery, physical strength and power while denoting the emotional conflict and fragility. The visible and invisible marks and notches on this work bring a distinctive identity to each audience, apart from their own. Although masks and armors are representations of protection, security and concealment, they also allow rooms for honest disclosure and revelation of one’s true self as one becomes anonymous. The artist is interested in the investigation of the unspoken actions and reactions of the encountering audience. Such interactions between the audience on both sides are the true completion of the work.
