Open Print Exchange, 99 prints from 99 artists — a global art swap tiny prints exhibition

The Open Print Exchange is a worldwide exchange of tiny artworks. From an open call, prints lovers around the world participated by sending an edition of 10 prints created with a 3D printed press by Open Press Project and getting 9 random prints from other participants all over the world in return. The 10th print will be in the online archive, a catalogue and some will be displayed in exhibitions. So far the exhibition has hosted more than 20 shows in various countries along with the collaboration with museums and galleries. This time, it was first exhibited in Bangkok, Thailand. Saratta is delighted to be a host of the exhibition. Aims to inspire and encourage prints lovers community to encounter each other through these tiny artworks. Open Print Exchange currently a collection of 745 prints and is still growing. Archiving the pure joy of art exchange, displaying the various possibilities of printmaking techniques such as intaglio, etching, drypoint, TetraPak etc. These tiny prints can simply be done in a studio, on a vacation or a home-kitchen studio. A reminder of all the joyful moments can start small as tiny as these prints.

About Open Press Project
Martin Schneider and Dominik Schmitz, two designers from Cologne, Germany. Martin designed the initial version of the Open Press in 2018 as part of an exam at his University KISD Köln International School of Design. His idea was to come up with a functional printing press that can be manufactured with a regular 3D printer. He published the files for it as open source in order to make it easy for people to get access to techniques like etching, engraving, drypoint, and other intaglio printmaking techniques. Before the Open Press Project these techniques were usually only possible with a regular big etching press, but these are very expensive, difficult to transport, and can be quite intimidating. A tiny version of this made from corn-starch-based plastic would lower the hurdle to print etchings & co, Martin thought. And he was met with overwhelming feedback, people from all over the world started to print their own presses in various colours. We share presses and prints from other people on Instagram account @openpressproject
